Taking back our streets

Tamsin DunwoodyTamsin brings Justice Minister to listen to the concerns of Crewe and Nantwich.

Tamsin Dunwoody, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Crewe and Nantwich, today brought Justice Minister Jack Straw to the Coppenhall Working Men’s Club to hear the concerns of residents from across the constituency about anti-social behaviour in Crewe and Nantwich.

Tamsin Dunwoody said:

“I wanted Jack to come to Crewe and Nantwich and hear for himself the very real concerns of people in this area. Tackling anti-social behaviour is a major priority for people in Crewe and Nantwich and I am making this issue my number one priority.

“Today I am launching my action plan to take back our streets from yobs and underage drinking. I will be demanding:

• More Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers on the beat
• More powers for Police Community Support Officers
• That local people can get our new neighbourhood police officers on the phone when they need them
• A crackdown on the mindless minority that are persistent offenders
• Tougher enforcement measures against underage drinking and tougher action on those outlets that sell children alcohol
• That local residents can identify crime hotspots and the police and council take rapid action to target them

“People are sick and tired of the sight of yobs, bullies and underage drinking on our streets and it is time for us to take the streets back.”

Jack Straw MP, Labour’s Secretary of State for Justice, said:

“I am really pleased to have the opportunity to come to Crewe and Nantwich and support Tamsin’s campaign. She has told me that the number of yobs, bullies and underage drinkers on the streets is a major concern here and I support her in putting taking back Crewe and Nantwich’s streets at the heart of her campaign.

“What residents here told me today is that the Tory council has not done enough to tackle anti-social behaviour and that their Conservative candidate has been in post 12 months and has come up with nothing to tackle the yobs and underage drinking.

“It is clear that the Tory candidate from Tarporley is all talk. Edward Timpson says he is serious about tackling crime yet he has signed up to Tory plans to support hugging hoodies and oppose Labour’s tough measures on crime.

“If the people of Crewe and Nantwich want action on anti-social behaviour, they should vote for Tamsin Dunwoody.”
