Supporting local voluntary organisations
Hilary is a patron of a number of local voluntary organisations, including Holbeck Elderly Aid, Faith Together in Leeds 11, Caring Together in Woodhouse and Little London, St Luke's Cares,
STOP, Education South Africa and Leeds Groundwork.
Helping to regenerate inner-city Leeds
Parts of inner-city Leeds experiences high levels of poverty, crime, vandalism and unemployment.
Hilary is working to support the regeneration of these areas - like Halton Moor, Beeston, Holbeck and East End Park - in partnership with Leeds City Council and local community organisations.
Crime is now lower, thanks to more police and PCSOs.
Hilary believes that real change has to come from the bottom up, with local community groups crucial to success.
Raising levels of achievement of children in Leeds
Hilary always tries to support headteachers and staff in inner-city Leeds in their efforts to raise levels of achievement by pupils.
A number of schools now have brand new buildings or have been refurbished, and primary schools in the area have achieved significant improvements in Maths and English results for 11 year olds.
Congratulations to all those who are working really hard!
