Manton Colliery Athletic Club - one step closer to redevelopment

Manton Club's £1.2 million project is one step closer to receiving the funding needed to develop their sports field and add changing rooms to the club house. The plans include fencing the site, levelling the field (to allow additional football pitches, a cricket square, a grass athletics track and a whippet track to be located on the field), adding a multi-use games area, four new changing rooms, improving the bowling green and an extension to the car park.

Sport England this week confirmed the Regional Sports Board’s decision to contribute £248,000 of Lottery investment, via the Community Investment Fund, towards the project.

The award focuses on getting more people playing sport and specifically athletics, bowls and cricket by the creation of a multi-use games area and the modernisation and improvement work whilst contributing a small amount to the wider project. Brian Hopkinson, secretary of Manton Club said "This is a great achievement for Manton Club, we've been trying to get money for a while now, but we've finally got some! Thanks to John Mann for encouraging us to keep on trying."

Manton Club have still got some way to go to receive all their funding, they are hoping for more good news in the coming months, but they are at least half way there now.

John Mann MP commented "this is great news for Worksop. This area is short on good outdoor sporting facilities and this will benefit the whole community. This is the first step on the way and I congratulate Manton club for their perseverance and hard work in getting the funding commitment from Sport England"
