Following John Mann's support of the newly thriving boxing clubs in this area he has been contacted by many people who are keen to set up clubs throughout Bassetlaw.
Those in existence are purely surviving due to the dedication and commitment of their organisers, many are operating in poorly equipped and under resourced buildings. John Mann recently visited the new boxing gym in Harworth, its literally under the pit tower operating without electricity or running water, but young lads are keen to get involved and participate in this challenging sport.
John Mann has joined forces with ex-Sports Minister Richard Caborn MP and the Amateur Boxing Association in their campaign to reintroduce boxing across Britain.
John Mann said "I congratulate those who are currently working so hard to keep the local boxing clubs going. I know that many are supporting them out of their own pockets. I want to see boxing being established throughout the community and in our secondary schools. This will help teenagers channel their aggression into competitive sport, and help them develop self-discipline and respect for their opponents".
John Mann has called a public meeting for all those interested in getting more resources for boxing or in establishing local boxing clubs. This will be on Friday 11th July at 7pm at Harworth Village Hall. Richard Caborn MP, who is President of the Amateur Boxing Association will also be attending. |
