National Veterans Day event to be held in Bassetlaw
A special celebration for local war veterans will be held on Saturday 23 June to mark National Veterans Day. This is the second National Veterans Day and the
special celebration event follows a successful Veterans Garden Party held in Bassetlaw last year.
Bassetlaw MP John Mann is organising the event which will be held at the North Notts Community Arena, Eastgate, Worksop. The event will be attended by Sir
Andrew Buchanan, the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire and local councillors, and guests will be
entertained with live music performed by the Worksop Miners Welfare Band.
John Mann has been running a campaign to get local Veterans presented with their HM Armed Forces Veterans Lapel Badge, and has so far personally presented
over 100 Badges.
Local veterans are welcome to attend the celebration event on 23 June with their families and friends, but they must register in advance to get
tickets.
The event is being supported by local County Councillors Alan Rhodes, Glynn Gilfoyle, Sybil Fielding and Sheila Place.
John Mann MP said:
“National Veterans Day is now firmly established as an important date in the calendar. It gives us the opportunity to celebrate the contribution made by
Veterans and to reflect on the sacrifices they made for the country. I think it is important that we mark this locally and that’s why I am organising this event. I am delighted to confirm that one
of our best local bands will be entertaining the guests; the Worksop Miners Welfare Band is one of the best in the business and I am looking forward to their performance.”
“I would encourage local veterans to contact my office as soon as possible to register for the event and to bring their families and friends. This will be an
excellent opportunity for local Veterans to come together to mark this important day. I am looking forward to meeting local Veterans and their families at the event.”
