Warmfront are coming to town. Having challenged them about their charges for new heating systems they have agreed to meet anyone dissatisfied with their price or their work. For an invitation to this meeting please contact me on 01909 506200. The meeting is on Friday June 6th.
But I have agreed more with them. In addition they will be holding a series of open events for anyone else on low pay or a pensioner who might be eligible for a Warmfront grant. Anyone on pension credit and the disabled are likely to qualify automatically for Warmfront, and many more as well.
Further success on the 10p tax rate as the Chancellor has raised personal allowances. I have sent him my ten point plan for the future: taking most pensioners totally out of tax is one of the high priorities. Compulsory ID cards remains an issue that I want- despite the London elite attacking me on it. I am also calling for the mass building of pensioner bungalows for rent. Here is an opportunity for A1 Housing.
Pensioner bungalows are cheaper to build, being much smaller. They can be built so they are cheap to heat, I would build them with solar panels which would give free hot water all year round and free summer and autumn heating. But more importantly this would free up larger properties for families, A lot of people in this area want a pensioner bungalow and we should build at least 1,000 in Bassetlaw immediately.
There is a rebirth of allotments across the country. Higher supermarket prices and reduced choice are leading to more people returning to growing their own fruit and veg. Some never stopped doing so of course. I hope this current boom continues. It makes more sense to eat good food for free than to have it shipped and driven halfway across the world. Perhaps school allotments could be developed much more and perhaps both our councils could assist in overhauling areas where allotments have fallen into disuse and protect them from becoming plots for new housing. How about some of the Portland land being turned into allotments but no doubt this will be earmarked for yet more housing?
I see that some council planning decisions are now made by officers, not even by elected councillors. I will be investigating this. I am going to launch my own enquiry into Bassetlaw planning decisions, looking at the way in which decisions are made and whether local people were properly consulted and listened to.
I will be inviting Parish Councils and tenants and residents associations to highlight any planning decisions that they regard as damaging to their area. These decisions affect peoples lives directly and I intend to break open the veil of secrecy that is Bassetlaw Planning Committee and its delegated decision making.
I invite any local resident who have issues worthy of investigation to contact me so that I can look at the policies, the lack of policies, the systems and the decision making. I have already received one threatening letter from the Council but I can assure you that this MP will not be silenced.
