Patricia Hewitt MP met Douglas Alexander, the International Development Secretary in Parliament this week to discuss progress in the global fight against HIV and AIDS.
Ahead of World AIDS Day on December 1st, Patricia urged Douglas to maintain the UK’s global leadership on this issue.
Patricia said: “Many of my constituents in Leicester contact me to urge action on the global scourge of HIV and AIDS. I stressed to Douglas that the people of Leicester want the UK Government to maintain its global leadership on this issue and meet its commitments to the world’s poorest people. With 33 million people still living with HIV and AIDS worldwide, we must continue to act. I was very pleased that Douglas committed to continuing the Government’s on tackling poverty at home and abroad.”
