MP Coaker
praises Nottingham's drugaware
8 October
2008 - Nottingham Evening Post
A Minister
has pledged to roll out a Nottingham-pioneered anti drugs scheme
across the UK if it is successful.
Vernon
Coaker, who has just been appointed Minister for Police, said the
DrugAware project made Nottingham "a beacon".
Mr Coaker,
MP for Gedling, said: "It could be used as a template for other
areas. If it works in Nottingham we would be quite happy to see it
rolled out across the country."
Graham Allen , MP for Nottingham
North, said DrugAware, which has just won funding for three years,
aims to see every five to 16 year old get the same universal drugs
education.
Mr Allen
said: "Evidence shows that balanced, accurate drug education can be
a factor in countering peer-pressure or delaying the onset of
casual use."
