John Austin welcomes opening of All Saints Community Garden | |
Local Labour MP, John Austin, joined Angela Haymonds of the Cory Environment Trust in cutting the ribbon to open the new community garden at All Saints Church in Belvedere on Sunday. Pictured in the new garden are Rev Colin Terry, Vicar of All Saints, The Venerable Dr Paul Wright, Archdeacon of Bexley and Bromley, John Austin MP and Angela Haymonds. The opening followed a multicultural community service in All Saints which was also attended by local Belvedere councillor, Daniel Francis. John Austin said: "This project has been funded by Cory Environmental Trust from the Landfill tax introduced by the government to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. Reducing the amount of biodegradable waste going to landfill reduces methane emissions into the atmosphere which contribute to climate change. This tax encourages local councils to re-use and recycle, but the money raised goes back directly into the community for environmental projects such as the All Saints Garden - a double bonus!"
