Goode and Roberts Slam Tory Sex Shop Feud

Peter Roberts and Dave Goode

David Goode and Peter Roberts, Labour’s parliamentary spokesperson for North East Cambridgeshire, have slammed local Tories after their recent infighting over a Sex Shop in Guyhirn risked an unnecessary and costly by-election for Fenland District Council.

Following the shock news that Councillor Phil Wait is to resign, the people of Fenland are now expected to foot the bill for a second by-election in six months, a process described as “not cheap” by Tory Council leader Geoff Harper.

David Goode, the runner-up for Labour at the last Wisbech St Mary and Parson Drove by-election, expressed his disbelief at the goings on within the local Tory Party.

Parson Drove resident David said: “We are faced with this ridiculous scenario only months after the election of Cllr Wait, and one which was completely avoidable. People in my village and others nearby could now lose their voice on the council until a by-election because of splits in the ranks of the local Tories”.

Peter Roberts added: “At this time when many hard working families in Fenland are faced with increases in household bills it is beyond belief that the local Tories could cost local taxpayers thousands of pounds because of their farcical feuding over, of all things, a Sex Shop”.

What really makes this matter worse is the unapologetic and blasé nature with which the entire affair has been handled by the Council leader”.
