   Peter's Biography

Peter Roberts profilePeter Roberts was selected in August 2007 to represent the Labour Party in the North East Cambridgeshire seat for the next General Election, and has been campaigning on behalf of local people ever since.

Peter, 27, was born in Alvaston, Derby in 1983, the son of an industrial electrician and a nurse. He attended Backwell Comprehensive School, before working as a warehouse forklift driver for four consecutive summers to fund his degree at the University of Bath in 2004, and then a Masters from the London School of Economics in 2005.

He went on to work for the Social Services Department at Tower Hamlets Borough Council as an Auditor, assessing and training staff in child protection software, before leaving to run the Parliamentary office of Dan Norris MP – a prominent campaigner against child sexual abuse and the current Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Bramley LineIn 2006 Peter accepted a place at the University of Cambridge to read for a PhD analysing how British social and political movements influence government policy.

Locally, Peter is a member of the Bramley Line organisation and a school governor at a Fenland Junior School. He is also a member of the trade union Unite (Amicus Section), as well as the Fabians, Comprehensive Future and the Co-operative Party.

Fenland CountrysidePeter holds a special interest in issues relating to local transport, encouraging wider access to higher education, co-operatives and trade unions.

In his spare time Peter enjoys cross country treks, completing a 30 mile walk through the Fens for charity in March 2009. He is also a passionate fan of non-league football and plays five-a-side.
