Job Description


Job Title:                  Trainee Campaigns Organiser - Sandwell

Responsible to: Regional Director in conjunction with Sandwell Labour Group

Location: Labour Party Regional Office plus time to be spent in Sandwell Borough

Key purpose: The Campaigns Organiser will be responsible for all aspects of Labour Party campaigning within the designated area.

 S/he will be responsible for building and maintaining party organisation and activity; establishing an effective election and campaign organisation for all elections including all local and by-elections within the designated area; working in liaison with the MPs, officers, campaign committees, Constituency Labour Parties, Branches, Labour Group and other units within the Party.

 The postholder will be part of the Regional Team, reporting direct to the Regional Director in conjunction with Sandwell Labour Group

Specific
Responsibilities:

• Working with council candidates, prospective parliamentary candidates and MPs to motivate and organise the members in preparation for all election campaigns.

• To lead and organise campaigning activity as determined by the Regional Director in conjunction with Sandwell Labour Group

• To work with the Regional Communications Officer in conjunction with the candidates, MPs and local councillors to develop a message for campaigns and to ensure this is followed through on communications.

• Providing training to members on election techniques, production of newsletters, voter i/d (doorstep and telephone), registration and postal votes.

• Developing local fundraising and fundraising schemes to ensure CLPs in the area have adequate funding to contest elections;

• Identifying and developing the skills of members in the designated areas and to build relationships between CLPs to facilitate twinning arrangements with majority and non-labour held seats.

• Organising campaign events within the constituencies in their area;

• Building up membership and membership activity in the constituencies within the area in line with the Party's aims and objectives.

• Reporting on the level of all activity, organisation and the effective operation of Party rules in each of the constituencies to the Regional Director and Sandwell Labour Group; 
 
• Developing communications systems with branches, members and other units of the party and affiliated organisations in the area to promote Labour's achievements and Party activities;

• Liaising with Sandwell Labour Groups on all local Government matters and on the party policy and constitution in relation to local Government;

Campaign Officers are expected to be able to drive or to be in the process of learning to drive.

The post holder will be expected to operate on a flexible basis, and to undertake such tasks as shall from time to time be determined by the Regional Director in conjunction with the Sandwell Labour Group.

• ability to organise an election campaign

• ability to use a basic WP package
• ability to run a well-organised office

• ability to work with and lead a wide range of people
• ability to motivate people
