   Tory Councillor Insults Residents

Lucy Ivimy must resign over “foreign born” rubbish throwing remarks

Lucy IvimyAndy Slaughter, Labour MP for Shepherds Bush, has joined council colleagues and local residents in calling for Conservative Councillor Lucy Ivimy (pictured above) to resign over disgusting insults about local residents.

In an email to housing officials, Cllr Ivimy—who has recently been put in charge of housing for the whole of the Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham—said she wanted to “conduct an educational-exercise to tell people not to throw stuff out of the window- particularly foreign-born residents”.

She added, “I know that in India throwing rubbish out of a window and total disregard for the cleanliness of a public area is normal behaviour”.

Andy Slaughter, who is Labour’s candidate for the new Hammersmith constituency, said: “This is a disgraceful comment from someone who holds a public office, particularly given that she has a duty of care towards tenants and leaseholders in her position as Portfolio Holder for Housing.

“I have written to David Cameron, urging him to show some guts and suspend her membership of the Conservative Party.

“Predictably, however, local and national Tories have closed ranks and seem to be protecting Cllr Ivimy—so much for compassionate conservatism.

“This goes to show—the Conservatives haven’t really changed. Under the skin, they’re the same old nasty Tory party.”

Labour Group leader on Hammersmith and Fulham council, Cllr Steve Cowan, has also called for Cllr Ivimy to be sacked from her council cabinet position and to step down as a councillor. Steve said, “all this shows is her inherent prejudice”.
