Andy Slaughter, Labour MP for Shepherds Bush, has slammed the plans of the Conservative-run Hammersmith and Fulham Borough Council to perform a major reorganization of the borough's secondary schools.
Despite being given important government funding to improve education in the area, the council have decided to go ahead with unpopular plans to merge and transfer management of many local schools, meaning large scale disruption to the experience and well being of the borough's school pupils.
Part of the Conservative leadership's proposed changes to the organization of the area's schools include the controversial and inexplicable transfer of Hurlingham and Chelsea school to the French Government. They are also planning to press ahead with merging several schools into larger units. Both proposals have met considerable local opposition from parents' groups.
Andy said, “I will be asking Jim Knight, Minister for Schools, to intervene to stop the Tories on your local council from squandering £120 million of public money on these divisive and idiotic proposals. This money was meant to be for rebuilding and improvement in the area's education”.
