MPs' expenses: an open letter to constituents

MPs’ expenses
With the current attention on MPs’ expenses, I think it is only right that you know where I stand on the issue.
I entered politics to serve my community, not to make money. I have never and will never claim a penny of the second homes allowance. All of my expenses are for running my office and to help me do my job as an MP.
I claim nothing for personal use.
The House of Commons has now published all details of MPs' expenses. You can see mine here.
It saddens me that the greed and poor judgment of some MPs have brought all of politics into disrepute. I believe the expenses system needs complete reform to ensure no MP can profit from it. I do not believe MPs need a pay increase or should be allowed to earn money from other jobs.
Representing a busy London constituency takes me 70 to 80 hours a week. I do not see how you can do another job as well.
I have lived and worked in Hammersmith & Fulham all my life. I’ve been an elected representative here for nearly 25 years. I am proud of the voluntary work I have done as a school governor, trustee of a local homelessness charity and board member of our local law centre.
I wish to spend my time helping residents with their problems and delivering locally the Labour Government’s programmes to help us out of recession.
