Digital Radio Reception Gain Welcomed by Ogmore Labour

DABHouseholds in the Bridgend Valleys are now able to receive the new DAB radio service – including Radios 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Live, 6 and 7 – from the BBC.

Ogmore Labour Secretary Martin Hughes states “for too long FM stereo reception in some parts of the Garw, Llynfi and Ogmore Valleys has been patchy, and people who have invested in new DAB radios have often been disappointed with the quality of service.”

Ogmore Labour started to make representations to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport at the beginning of 2009, which were followed up by Huw Irranca-Davies MP.  The BBC established a new transmitter service which covers the Bridgend Valleys and the area of Bridgend north of the M4 shortly before Christmas 2009.

Martin Hughes adds “the new service is a huge improvement.  Although it is presently limited to BBC radio channels, there is scope for the commercial sector to provide additional choice, and I hope that the BBC will pull out all the stops to make Radio Wales and Radio Cymru available shortly.”

The BBC’s national DAB digital radio services are broadcast as a single frequency network.  All the DAB transmitters transmit the BBC multiplex on the frequency of 225.648MHz (Block 12B).
