Issues you care about

I regularly receive correspondence from people from all towns, villages and communities in the Ogmore constituency.  Members of the public often tell me their views and feelings on a wide variety of issues.  I am always delighted to see how much people care about the world around them, and I try to respond in as much detail as I can, often after taking constituents' views directly to Government Ministers.

Below are the issues you have told me you care about most, and if you follow the links you will find details of the work I have done in on each particular subject.  If you can't find details of an issue that interests you, don't forget to get in touch using my E-Surgery.

Tax reform

I've had correspondence from many constituents who were concerned  by some elements of the reform to the tax system.  By following this link, you will see my response to their concerns and, ultimately, explaining how happy I was with the Government's decision to extend its support for those on the lowest incomes.

European reform

Eu flag

There's been much media confusion as to what the Lisbon Treaty, or Reform Treaty, will actually do.  Some have said that it acts in the same way as the Constitution, which was abandoned in 2004 after proving unpopular in some Western European countries.  Read my explanation as to why there was no need for a referendum on the treaty here.

MP's allowances

Portcullis
The recent scandals over Parliamentary allowances have been unhelpful and unfair to the vast majority of MPs who would never abuse public money.  Here I explain my feelings over the matter and what must be done to prevent such abuses in the future.
