Huw Supports Plans to Stub Out Smoking in Children’s Playgrounds
Ogmore MP Huw Irranca-Davies has welcomed plans by Bridgend County Borough Council to ban smoking inside children’s playgrounds.
In line with the Tobacco Control Action Plan for Wales (2012), a voluntary code of non-smoking is being considered which will require people to stub out their cigarette before entering any council-run playground within Bridgend County Borough.
The council is currently considering how it can partner with other local authorities, town and community councils and organisations like Abertawe Bro Morgaanwg University Health Board to implement the plans, erect appropriate signs and raise awareness of the new scheme.
Huw said “Not only will these plans help protect our children from the effects of second hand smoke they will also cut down on smoking-related litter and encourage fewer children to start smoking by making it less visible to them.”
