David Chaytor MP for Bury North, joined a group of cross-party MPs and leading business and environmental organisations at the House of Commons to launch a joint statement on
energy efficiency.
The joint statement sets out 11 clear and achievable steps that will help achieve the Government’s ‘ultimate ambition’ of using every unit of energy as
efficiently as possible and contribute to meeting the UK target of reducing carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050.
At launch of the joint statement David Chaytor met Philip Sellwood, Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust to discuss the urgency with which the Government must act to tackle
the challenge of climate change and the important contribution energy efficiency can make to meeting this challenge.
Welcoming the launch of the joint statement, David Chaytor said:
“There is a consensus in leading business and environmental organisations and in Parliament on the need for a step change in Government policy on energy
efficiency to help tackle climate change. The Joint Statement on Energy Efficiency sets out clear and achievable steps to deliver that
change.
“Climate change is the single greatest threat we face, and the Government have rightly identified energy demand reduction as the most effective
approach to tackling both dangerous climate change and energy security. However gradual progress is not enough – we need this rhetoric to be turned into urgent action."
