July 29 - Mark urges council to address fuel poverty

Mark is encouraging South Derbyshire District Council to work with an energy charity to help mobile home owners.

Mark has held two meeting with residents from two mobile home parks - Greenacre Park in Coton-in-the-Elms and Ninelands Park at Hartshorne.  Both meetings were attended by National Energy Action (NEA), the charity commissioned by the government to research solutions to fuel poverty among mobile home owners.

Among the points which arose was NEA’s partnership with a number of district councils to carry out specific local work to test equipment that could reduce energy bills.

Mark has now written to SDDC asking officers to get in touch with the charity.

Mark said: "Mobile homes tend to be occupied by people on lower, often fixed incomes.  The homes themselves are often less well insulated than a traditional home.  They certainly use less efficient fuel sources.  The consequence is that owners and residents are likely to be spending a large and increasing proportion of their income on heating. "

"I very much hope the council will consider this."
