The European Parliament is the only directly-elected body of the European Union. The 736 Members of the European Parliament are there to represent you, the citizen. They are elected once every five years by voters right across the 27 Member States of the European Union on behalf of its 500 million citizens.

Mary HoneybalI entered the European Parliament in 2000, following three decades of involvement in Labour politics and the women’s movement. Since becoming an MEP, she has built upon previous political achievements, contributing to advances for women’s rights and culture in particular.

Mary has been the Socialist and Democrat lead on Culture and Education since 2009.

Claude Moraes is Labour Member of the European Parliament  for London and Deputy Leader of the European Parliamentary Labour Party (EPLP).

First elected to the European Parliament in 1999, Claude was the first  Asian origin MEP . He was reelected in 2009 where he led the London list. He is currently Spokesperson for the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament for Home Affairs and Justice.
