Tilda Tiffin Cup 2008

Swindon’s Jewel in the Crown restaurant has been Highly Commended by judges in the  Tilda Tiffin Cup festival of curry. The restaurant was nominated by local MP Anne Snelgrove.

Anne Snelgrove said: “Swindon has many hidden treasures like the Jewel in the Crown and I’m very pleased it has been highly commended by judges – though I think it should have made the final. I know that people in Swindon, particularly curry lovers, will want to join me in congratulating the staff.”

The Tilda Tiffin Cup was established in 2006 by MPs Michael Fabricant, John Barrett and Keith Vaz and is now in its third year. The competition encourages the participation of as many constituencies as possible to celebrate the diversity of British culture and food. The money raised through ticket sales for the final ‘cook off’ will be donated to two very worthy charities.

This year the competition will raise funds for: Friends in Village Development Bangladesh, whose aim it is to contribute towards educational and socio-economic empowerment of disadvantaged people in rural Bangladesh, and also the breast cancer charity ROKO Cancer. ROKO Cancer conducts 3000 mammograms within the areas of  Punjab, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujrat and Maharashtra all within 12 months which is a remarkable feat.

Promoted by Ray Collins, General Secretary, the Labour Party, on behalf of the Labour Party, both at 39 Victoria Street, London, SW1H 0HA.
