Voters can now keep track of a Derby MP by simply logging on to the internet.

Bob Laxton has launched a new website which includes a map showing where he has been and what he has been doing.

The website was announced during a debate that the Derby North MP attended at Woodlands Community School.

He said: "The website that was previously up and running was quite dated, so I decided to set up a new one and add the feature where people can see what I've been doing.

"All they need to do is log on to the website and go to the map that shows exactly where I've been. For a lot of people, the internet is their first port of call if they want to find out certain bits of information so having a good website is really important."

Derby North MP Mr Laxton, 62, a former pupil of Woodlands Community School, in Blenheim Drive, was invited to take part in the school's weekly debate by current student Tom Lewsley.

The 17-year-old hopes to study politics at university and said that he thought the website was a great idea.

He said: "I did some work experience with Mr Laxton and at the end of it attended a question and answer session with him, which was really interesting and is why I decided to invite him to one of our debates.

"We rarely get outside opinions about our topics, so it was good to hear the informed opinions that he had.

"I think his website is a great idea as a lot of people don't think politicians do anything after they're elected, but the website shows otherwise."

Neve Van Den Bron, 17, was also one of the five pupils on the panel, which discussed topics ranging from the war in Iraq and legalisation of class A drugs to problems of global warming.

She said: "It was really good to hear Mr Laxton's opinions as he really knows what he's talking about and on some of the topics had different opinions to us. It will be interesting to see where he's been in the city, and even the country, and just logging on to the net makes it so easy."

The website also features contact information for Mr Laxton, along with surgery times and a poll on national issues.
