September School Leavers Guarantee

Hazel Blears has welcomed the Government’s introduction of the September School leaver’s guarantee which will ensure every school leaver in Salford can stay on in learning or training during the recession.

The guarantee for school leavers:

  • full or part-time education in school, sixth form college, independent learning provider, or FE college
  • an apprenticeship or programme-led apprenticeship - this must include both the training element and a job or work placement
  • Entry to Employment (E2E)
  • employment with training to NVQ level 2

Hazel said, ‘Lots of people are struggling with the impact of the recession and I know jobs are hard to come by at the moment especially for young people.

It’s important that the government helps those who want to continue with education or are thinking about getting a job having done their exams, and that’s why we are expanding apprenticeships and training places, as well as places in sixth forms and colleges for different courses like Diplomas and A levels.

The September Guarantee for school leavers means all young people will have the opportunity to get the skills and qualifications they need to get on in life and get a good job.’

The Principal of Salford City College, Peter Crompton, added, ‘The Guarantee means no Salford school leaver should settle for anything less than a route to a successful future. The college offers a huge range of opportunities for any school leaver wanting to progress – no matter what he or she has achieved at school. The best way to check us out is to call in or ‘phone for an appointment with an advisor.’
