Local MP congratulates Salford's GCSE students on another fantastic set of results

Salford’s local MP, Hazel Blears has today congratulated students and teachers on the outstanding improvement in this year's GCSE results.

Almost 68% of Salford pupils achieved five or more A*-C grades, which is another big improvement on last year's results of 60%.

Hazel said:

“This is a fantastic result for Salford’s secondary schools.  An 8% increase in one year is a massive leap forward.  Pupils, teachers, staff, governors, parents and the local council should all feel very proud of what has been achieved.

"Good results are the product of students’ hard work and excellent teaching in the system.

“The Government's ambition is to make sure every student reaches their maximum potential – providing more challenging work for the brightest pupils and targeted support for those who fall behind.

“We want all young people to achieve success and GCSEs give them a respected qualification and a worthwhile goal – enabling them to take a broad range of subjects, in depth, and preparing them for study at a higher level or employment.

”These results show the benefits of sustained extra investment in teachers and resources in the education system and our radical reforms over the last 11 years.

“I again congratulate Salford children on their fantastic achievement.”
